⚠ CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING
This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, cadmium, and phthalates, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
1. What Is Proposition 65
Proposition 65 (officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986) is a California law that requires businesses to provide warnings to California residents about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. These chemicals can be present in consumer products, including electronic gaming peripherals and accessories.
The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) maintains the list of chemicals subject to Proposition 65, which currently includes over 900 substances. The full list is available at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
2. Why GameForge Products Carry This Warning
Gaming peripherals sold by GameForge — including mechanical keyboards, RGB lighting kits, controller grips, headset stands, and streaming microphones — contain electronic components, plastic materials, metal parts, and cables that may contain trace amounts of Proposition 65-listed chemicals. We provide this warning out of an abundance of caution and to comply with California law.
The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product will cause harm. The warning is required when exposure to a listed chemical exceeds a “safe harbor” level established by OEHHA, or when a business chooses to provide the warning without conducting a specific exposure assessment.
3. Lead and Cadmium
Some gaming peripheral products may contain trace amounts of lead or cadmium, both of which are on the Proposition 65 list. These metals may be present in:
- Solder used in keyboard PCBs and RGB lighting controllers
- Metal components in headset stands and microphone boom arms
- Electrical contacts in USB cables and connectors
- Battery cells in wireless gaming peripherals
- Pigments or colorants used in certain keycap and mousepad materials
Lead is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Cadmium is known to cause cancer and reproductive harm.
4. Electronic Components
Electronic gaming peripherals contain circuit boards, microcontrollers, LEDs, and wiring that may include Proposition 65-listed substances such as:
- Lead — in solder joints on keyboard PCBs and RGB controller boards
- Antimony trioxide — in flame-retardant treatments for electronic casings
- Carbon black — in plastic housings for keyboards, microphones, and controllers
- Nickel — in metal plating on USB connectors and switch contacts
These substances are typically enclosed within the product housing and do not present a risk of exposure during normal use. However, California law requires the warning regardless of actual exposure risk.
5. Phthalates
Some gaming peripheral products may contain phthalates, which are chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and durable. Phthalates are on the Proposition 65 list as chemicals known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Phthalates may be present in:
- PVC insulation on USB cables and braided cable sleeves
- Rubberized grips on controller accessories and thumbstick caps
- Anti-slip bases on mousepads and deskpads
- Flexible plastic components in headset stands and cable management clips
6. How to Reduce Exposure
To minimize potential exposure to Proposition 65-listed chemicals in gaming peripherals:
- Wash your hands after handling gaming peripherals, especially before eating or drinking
- Do not disassemble, crush, or incinerate electronic components
- Keep products away from children who may put cables or small parts in their mouths
- Use products in well-ventilated areas, especially when first unboxing new items
- Dispose of electronic gaming peripherals at designated e-waste recycling facilities
- Avoid modifying or soldering keyboard PCBs without proper safety equipment
